WISHING YOU A VERY

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dereham Town Council would like to wish all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year! We hope that you enjoyed your Christmas as much as we did and that the year ahead brings you luck and happiness.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

As you can imagine, the Christmas period is one of the busiest times for the Town Council and this year was no exception. The staff in the office would like to thank all the kind people who sent in Christmas cards and those who wished us a Happy Christmas and New Year!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN 2007?

There are big plans for the Memorial Hall and Recreation Ground this year, which has been covered on page 2 of the Newsletter this month. For the past year there have been many meetings held to discuss the development of these two places and work has been happening behind the scenes to make sure that both these projects have the attention that they finally deserve. Watch this space and we hope you will see a big improvement within the next year!

Don’t forget that 2007 is Election year. Elections will be held throughout Dereham in May at your local schools and village halls, This is your opportunity to vote for your favourite local councillor. Candidates will be canvassing from the beginning of April, so get researching and use your vote wisely, the Councillors are there to work for you and your area!

The Christmas Lights

This year the Christmas lights were turned by Mick Gault,. Mr Gault is Derehams' local celebrity as he has won a record breaking fourteen Commonwealth Games medals for shooting. The event took place in the Market Place on Sunday 26th November where a number of residents turned out to witness the festive lighting ceremony. Thank you for supporting this tradition every year and thank you to Dereham Area Partnership who are responsible for the organising and funding of the lights. We look forward to your continued support, as without your generous donations and the efforts from Dereham Area Partnerships, we would not have the resources to continue lighting the Town at Christmas, due to the increase in

THE RECREATION GROUND - As you are probably aware, the Recreation Ground has been a slow working progress but we are on the road to having a completion date. The main work will begin in spring when we will have to cordon off an area of the park for safety reasons. We understand that certain areas of the Recreation Ground will still have to be used for sporting activities, but we do ask for your cooperation while the work is going on and your support in any changes that will need to be made over this period of time. All going well, we do hope to have the Recreation Ground completed by the end of 2007, which will be in keeping with the new Leisure Centre and allow all residents to have an outdoor area with good facilities for the sunny days as well as the indoor facilities across the road for bad weather days
