Dereham Town Council
A vacancy has arisen for a Councillor on Dereham Town Council. The Council will co-opt a Councillor at its Council meeting on the 10th October 2017.
Anybody interested in putting themselves forward to be a Councillor must first check that they qualify. They will then need to submit a brief CV summarising the experience they would bring to the role along with a short statement as to why they would like to become a Councillor for Dereham. The CV and statement should reach the Council by the end of September 2017 and they will need to attend the Council meeting on the 10th October 2017.
Information relating to the Town Council can be found on the Council web-site. All the Council meetings are open to the public, the next Council meetings are on the 8th August and the 12th September, if you are interested in becoming a Councillor attending these meetings will be informative.
The qualifications and disqualifications for election and holding office as a member of a local authority are set out in detail in Sections 79 (1) (2), 80 and 81 of the Local Government Act 1972. Broadly speaking, to be qualified you need to:
either be a Dereham resident (or live within 3 miles), work in Dereham or own/ lease property in Dereham.
and be a citizen of the UK, Commonwealth or European Union.
And be a registered elector.
Any new member of the Council must make a declaration of acceptance of office incorporating an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct and complete a disclosure of their interests which will be available for public inspection.
